A Wild Day in the Everglades: Our Airboat Adventure with Captain Jack’s
As much as we love the peaceful beaches and laid-back vibe of Siesta Key, sometimes a little adventure calls our name. We recently took a road trip down to the Florida Everglades, and it turned into one of the most exciting experiences we’ve had in a while.
Double the Thrill with Captain Jack’s
We booked not one but two airboat rides with Captain Jack’s Airboat Tours in Everglades City — and wow, what a ride! Captain Jack’s came highly recommended for their knowledgeable guides and small-group tours, and they definitely delivered.
Our first ride took us deep into the mangrove tunnels — zipping through tight passages at top speed with the wind in our faces and eyes peeled for wildlife. The second ride cruised through the open grasslands, offering a totally different feel and view of the Everglades.
There’s also a wildlife refuge free with the Airboat rides. It was actually like a small zoo complete with tigers and other cool animals/reptiles! We did see alligators! Plus they were having a bunch of baby alligators having playtime & we even got to hold a 2-3 feet alligator.
Why You Should Add This to Your Itinerary
If you’re staying at one of our vacation rentals in Sarasota and want to explore a different side of Florida, a trip to the Everglades is totally worth the drive. It’s about 2.5 to 3 hours from our place, making it an easy day trip — especially when the destination is this unforgettable.
Tips for a smooth adventure:
- Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses (you’ll thank us later).
- Don’t forget your camera or phone — the scenery and wildlife are photo-worthy.
- Consider booking ahead on Captain Jack’s website, especially during weekends or holidays.
- There’s a little gift shop and wildlife area near the dock that’s fun to explore before or after your ride.
Back on Siesta Key, we’re enjoying the weather as usual… but our Everglades day will be one we won’t forget anytime soon.
